I keep hearing this argument from homophobic Christianists. They say the advancement of gay rights isn't fair to them because it makes them look bad. What kind of argument is that? What a grotesque sense of entitlement.
Maggie, you can believe whatever you want, but religious liberty doesn't grant you the right to be highly regarded.
Maggie is afraid of being called a biggot, so to avoid that, she thinks it's only right and proper that we're called faggots? That is what she's getting at. She claims she means no ill will toward gay people, but she's saying she wants, and has a right to live in a society that disapproves of homosexuality. She admits it right here in this piece. It's not just about marriage for her. It's about gay people gaining respect. How can poor Maggie go on saying bad things about gays without paying a social price if most like and respect gays?
