He can't bring himself to say it's not a choice becuase he wants to suck up to his homophobic base.  Anyone who would throw a group of Americans under a bus in order to get elected isn't fit to be president.  One could say he's even lower than homophobic Christianists because he adopts and promulgates homophobic attitudes for personal gain.
