By George, Clooney’s Got Us
Gearing up for the one-night-only L.A. reading of 8, Dustin Lance Black’s Prop. 8 play, George Clooney reaffirms his commitment to marriage equality and opens up about persistent gay rumors, his bromance with Brad Pitt, and the prospect of playing Paul Lynde....
The gay rumor has followed you for years.
I think it’s funny, but the last thing you’ll ever see me do is jump up and down, saying, “These are lies!” That would be unfair and unkind to my good friends in the gay community. I’m not going to let anyone make it seem like being gay is a bad thing. My private life is private, and I’m very happy in it. Who does it hurt if someone thinks I’m gay? I’ll be long dead and there will still be people who say I was gay. I don’t give a shit.

In the old days, the Republican ego had control of the party’s id. The id, sometimes described as a galloping horse or crying baby, “the dark, inaccessible part of our personality ... chaos, a cauldron full of seething excitations,” as Freud called it, was whipped up obliquely by candidates. Nixon had his Southern strategy of using race as a wedge, Bush Senior and Lee Atwater used the Willie Horton attack, and W. and Karl Rove conjured the gay marriage bogyman.
Once elected, those presidents curbed the id with the ego, common sense and reason. But now the G.O.P.’s id is unbridled. The horse has thrown the rider; the dark forces are bubbling. Moderates, women, gays, Hispanics and blacks — even the president — are being hunted in this most dangerous game.

Scary Santorum
I know that the conventional wisdom is that Obama could more easily beat Santorum than Romney, but I found myself sighing in relief when I heard that Romney had won in Michigan and Arizona. Of course I want Obama to win reelection this fall. But what if he was up against Santorum and something went wrong? Romney might be anti-gay. He might espouse many views that are antithetical to my own. But he just doesn’t seem as crazy as Santorum. Santorum is the guy who put down Protestants of the non-evangelical variety. He’s the guy who claims Obama’s theology is bad. Santorum is the guy who says he would die on a hill fighting against marriage equality and contraception because sex should be about procreation. Santorum is the guy who tells women that they should think of their rape babies as gifts from God. The man is one scary, loony bastard. He is locked up in his own limited and self-serving dogma, and he is completely incapable of looking at the world from someone else’s point of view, much less respecting someone else’s point of view. And if he should become the Republican nominee, that would place him within spitting distance of the presidency. I don’t even want to think about that. It’s bad enough that he’s being taken seriously as a primary candidate.

I have also seen this same intense fascination with neutered or genderless cartoon characters. One father told me that his son, who is now involved in homosexuality and is refusing to consider change, had a boyhood fascination with Bozo the clown. At the time his parents thought it was cute, even if a little strange. But he held onto the obsession until the age of twelve. The truth is, these obsessive interests are boys’ attempts to lose themselves in a fantasy world where they can imagine themselves as something other than male and where the challenges of gender do not exist.

As for the haters, let em hate…to quote Kat Williams, everyone needs haters, so let them hate.
We are the happiest we have ever been and as for the whole PDA and kissing slash hugging in uniform…it was a homecoming, if the Sergeants Major, Captains, Majors, and Colonels around us didn’t care…then why do you care what these random people have to say? In summation thank you for your love and support. I received a lot of friend requests off this. I don’t just accept requests so if your request was because of this post message me and let me know. __________
We're not trying to "redefine" anyone's marriage. People define their own marriages. How you think of and characterize your own marriage is your business. Too bad some want that right for themselves but they don't want others to have it.
Quote From The Dawn by Nietzsche
From The Dawn by Nietzsche: Thinking evil means making evil. The passions become evil and insidious when they are considered evil and insidious. Thus Christianity has succeeded in turning Eros and Aphrodite--great powers, capable of idealization--into hellish goblins… In themselves the sexual feelings, like those of pity and adoration, are such that one human being thereby gives pleasure to ano...ther human being through his delight; one does not encounter such beneficent arrangements too frequently in nature. And to slander just such a one and to corrupt it through bad conscience! To associate the procreation of man with bad conscience!
In the end this transformation of Eros into a devil wound up as a comedy: gradually the “devil” Eros became more interesting to men than all the angels and saints, thanks to the whispering and secret-mongering of the Church in all erotic matters: this has had the effect, right into our own time, of making the “love story” the only real interest shared by all circles--in an exaggeration which would have been incomprehensible in antiquity and which will yet be laughed at some day.

Indiana "Gay License Plate" For Kids!!!
Much of the focus of Gay-Straight Alliance youth groups is on how to deal with bullies and bigots, including abusive and bigoted family members. Imagine being a 12-year-old gay kid (I knew when I was 11) and having someone like the man in the video as a father. You would need outside support. You would need friends, fellow gay people who understand what you're going through, and staight allies who will let you know that most straight people will accept you. I don't know where the hell he's getting his information, but it seems to me most who want Walker's ruling upheld are anxious for the case to go to the Supreme Court and that many were very disappointed when the defenders of Prop 8 went for an en banc review rather than going straight to the Supreme Court. It seems to me that the defenders of Prop 8 are the ones who are trying to keep this case from getting to the Supreme Court.

court determined that laws which discriminate against LGBT Americans should be subjected to "heightened scrutiny".
From Think Progress:
The Court has ruled that considerations of discrimination against people based on sexual orientation should be held to heightened scrutiny for all four factors that determine such scrutiny:
The Court has ruled that considerations of discrimination against people based on sexual orientation should be held to heightened scrutiny for all four factors that determine such scrutiny:
HISTORY OF DISCRIMINATION: The first factor courts consider is whether the class has suffered a history of discrimination. There is no dispute in the record that lesbians and gay men have experienced a long history of discrimination.Read more here.
ABILITY TO CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY: Similarly, there is no dispute in the record or the law that sexual orientation has no relevance to a person’s ability to contribute to society.
IMMUTABILITY: Regardless of the evidence that a tiny percentage of gay men or lesbians may experience some flexibility along the continuum of their sexuality or the scientific consensus that sexual orientation is unchangeable, the Court finds persuasive the holding in the Ninth Circuit that sexual orientation is recognized as a defining and immutable characteristic because it is so fundamental to one’s identity.
POLITICAL POWERLESSNESS: The Court finds that the unequivocal evidence demonstrates that, although not completely politically powerless, the gay and lesbian community lacks meaningful political power… Although this factor is not an absolute prerequisite for heightened scrutiny, the Court finds the evidence and the law support the conclusion that gay men and lesbians remain a politically vulnerable minority.
